2020 Data: Average Salaries for Teachers in 2019/2020

How much are teachers paid in the UK? Well, he’s a summary of employment data published by the Department for Education in December 2020.

  • The average salary of all teachers working in the UK in 2020 was £40,537
  • The average salary for classroom teachers working in the UK in 2020 was £37,192.
  • The average salary for teachers in leadership roles in the UK in 2020 was £54,911.
  • The average salary for head teachers in the UL in 2020 was £71,655

2020 Data: Differences In Teacher Pay Between: Males and Females; Primary and Secondary; Local Authority and Academy Schools

  • Based on average salaries, males earn more than females
  • Based on average salaries, secondary school teachers earn more then primary school and special education teachers
  • Based on average salaries, teachers working in local authority schools earn more than teachers working in academy schools (with the exception of head teachers who earn more on average in academy schools compared to local authority schools). 

So, in summary, to earn the most as a teacher in the UK you need to be male, work in a secondary school, work in inner London, work in a local authority school, but if you become a head teacher, leave and work in an academy school.
