The Benign Violation Theory was first proposed by McGraw and Warren in 2010 and it provides a general theory of humour. The theory proposes that humour is produced when a violation occurs simultaneously with a benign situation. In this video I explain both components of the Benign Violation Theory and provide specific examples to help explain how the theory can be applied.
